Week 5 - The Flores Restoration

The second half on Sunday was better, and risks injecting some fatal optimism. At least, we have an easy game on Saturday, against a team we have enjoyed such success against recently - oh, never mind.

Here are the relevant bits from week 5:

Teams in the overall competition:  6,709,978 (up 142,728)

Highest score: 81 - competition high 128

Average score: 51.20 - overall competition average 52

Eliminated this week:

With 25 points: Harry's Hornets (Debs Vincent)

Gameweek rank: 6,617,622 (bottom 1.38%)

One of those weeks, where nothing went right and nothing short of triple captaining Fraser could have spared the drop

Also eliminated, with 29 points: 7oaks Hornet (Martin Levy)

Gameweek rank: 6,499,502 (bottom 3.14%)

Similarly, only triple captaining Salah would have been enough to survive

Narrowly surviving this week

Jezza's Giants (Jeremy Davis) - 32
The Cesc Pistols (Paul Shelock) - 32 (having played the wildcard)

Top scorer

Top scorer with an impressive 81 points and a gameweek rank of 109, 017 is Wonderstuff 19/20 (Paul Moston), built on having Mane as captain, and of course having Aubameyang against such a watertight defence.

Week 4 - Back to school

Today is the day the schools go back after the summer, so everyone is feeling a little bit down, not just those who look at the current Premier League table.

This week, we wen back to two eliminations.

The details:

Teams in the overall competition:  6,567,250 (up 146, 113)

Highest score: 80 - competition high 136

Average score: 53.15 - overall competition average 57

Eliminated this week

With 29 points (gross 41, but -12 for 4 transfers): Athacad (Tony Baines)

Gameweek rank: 5,955,929

With the points penalty for all those transfers, only the unlikely captaining of Alexander-Arnold would have got Tony out of the bottom two, and then by one point.

Also eliminated with 36 (gross 40, but -4 for 2 transfers): Fairfielders (Avi Govind)

Gameweek rank: 6,116,625

Choosing Sterling as captain instead of Salah or Van Dijk (or two others) condemned Avi to elimination.

Narrowly surviving this week

Harry's Hornets (Chris Hyde) - 36
Man Utd (James Bond) - 36

Top scorer

Top scorer this week, and now surging to the top of the overall WML league, is Not Sure (Laurence Blake) with 80 points and a gameweek rank of 370,768 (top 5.65%). There were double figure contributions from Vardy, De Bruyne and Alexander-Arnold, and only two players not getting more than the basic 2 points.

Now we have an international break, so we can happily concentrate on the Ashes and no doubt more disappointment.
